| Object history | Das Wappen stellt sowohl den Ortsnamen als auch die Geschichte dar: Die Sumpfdotterblume steht für den Ortsnamen, der "sumpfiges Tal" bedeutet. Der gezinnte Balken ist dem Familienwappen der Truchsessen von Kühlenthal entnommen, einem Zweig der bischöflichen Marschälle und Truchsesse von Dornsperg. Seit 1245 nennen sie sich nach der Burg Kühlenthal. Im Jahr 1361 verkauften Susanna, die Witwe Sifrids von Kühlenthal, und ihr Sohn Sifrid ihre Herrschaft in Kühlenthal an den Augsburger Bischof Marquard von Randeck (um 1300 bis 1381). Die Herrschaft Kühlenthal blieb bis zum Ende des Alten Reichs 1803 beim Hochstift Augsburg. Die Marschälle und Truchsessen von Donnersberg zählten neben und nach den Reichsmarschällen von Pappenheim zu dem bedeutendsten Ministerialengeschlecht zwischen Donauwörth und Augsburg. Ihr Herrschaftsgebiet lag zwischen zwischen Lech und Donau bis auf die Höhe von Augsburg. | |||
